Hi Chris,
I agree with Michael that your emotional responses to these major life events are normal. My guess is that you hurt BECAUSE YOU LOVED those family members who passed and BECAUSE YOU LOVE AND CARE ABOUT your parents who are divorcing. Remember that we grieve because we first loved and cared.

We are mostly conditioned in life to push away uncomfortable feelings when allowing them is healthier. But allowing them can be a scary task without the use of self compassion. When you are experiencing painful or confusing emotions, remind yourself that these are indeed normal responses to what you are going through but BE KIND TO YOURSELF in the process. Compassion is largely the 'stuff' that heals and self-compassion is no exception.

Think how you would be there for a good friend if he or she was going through the same thing. Be your own best friend in the same way. I agree that finding someone to talk to would be ideal. But also, in those moments alone, let yourself feel what you feel and dig down for a kindness that says, "I'm right here."

It's normal for you to feel out of the ordinary considering your difficult circumstances. You have a lot to deal with right now. My work may be able to help you in certain ways, but traditional therapy or counseling may be the best place to start.

I hope you start feeling better soon. You are always welcome here.

Best Regards,

Michael
